Who:

This half day seminar is designed for landmen and land administrators who wish to understand the role of the Land Surveyor and the rules & regulations required to complete their work in Alberta.  Candidates don"t need any prior knowledge and this course would benefit people who coordinate surveyors or use survey plans in their day to day business.

What:

Oil and Gas Land Surveying:  An Alberta Perspective will briefly introduce land surveying, the role of the professional Land Surveyor, including areas of practice and legislation, regulation and standards that are followed,  An in depth discussion of boundaries, evidence, field surveys and survey plans will follow including a look at the Alberta Energy Regulator, ESRD, Enhanced Approval Process and Land Titles with respect to survey processes and plans.  Technology in measurement and applications will also be discussed.

Registration Fee includes beverages and snacks.

Jeff Adair

Jeff Adair is an Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) and professional engineer, who was born and raised in Calgary.  He attended the University of Calgary from 1999 - 2004, graduating with a B.Sc in Geomatics Engineering.  Commissioned as an ALS since 2008, his experience is rooted in fieldwork throughout AB and BC, predominantly for upstream Oil and Gas clients.  Jeff started with WSP Canada (formerly Focus Corporation) as a summer student in 2002 and 2003, then started full time in 2004 and is currently the Calgary Oil and Gas Manager for WSP.

Besides surveying, Jeff enjoys everything outdoors, including mountain biking, snowmobiling, hockey, camping, and spending time with his better half, Erin as well as friends and family.

Dean Fischer

Dean was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta.  He attended Lethbridge College and then BCIT, and has a diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology and Bachelors Degree in Technology in Geomatics Engineering.  Currently, he is nearing the end of his Articles to becoming an Alberta Land Surveyor.  Dean has been with Focus (now WSP) since 2008 and field work has taken him throughout Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and Manitoba with a mix of Oil and Gas, Construction, Municipal, and Engineering styles of work.  Dean is currently based in the Calgary office doing a mix of project management, training, and development for WSP.  Before returning to school for Geomatics he was involved in Transportation and Tourism.  He was involved in a small ski resort in the Cypress Hills and his last job was the Director of Operations for Traxx Coachlines in Western Canada for 10 years leading up to going back to school.  Prior to that, he worked at the Columbia Icefield for two seasons with Justin Whitney.

When is he is not working on his articles, Dean spends most of his free time with his wife of 11 years and his two children who are very active in skiing and soccer.
